What To Expect
We are a Startup church that officially began on September 21st 2008.
As with any Startup the athmosphere is relaxed and the dress is casual. Have you ever noticed the guys downtown with shorts and t-shirts occupying the offices next to the guys in suits? The simple explanation is - STARTUP! So no need to dress up, just come in jeans and a t-shirt...
When you arrive on Sunday you will find sandwichboard signs at the corner of San Antonio and 5th Street and again at San Antonio and 4th directing you one block West to the well known Austin Landmark La Zona Rosa. There is parking all around the building and on the street as well as in the Texas State parking garage on 3rd and San Antonio (the metered parking is free Sunday morning and the parking garage is FREE until 2pm). The entrance to our church is in the Southwest corner of the building, enter into the courtyard and from there into the club venue of La Zona Rosa.
As you enter the building there will be some friendly faces to welcome you and a table with some info about the service and about other activities such as our city groups and service projects. Grab a cup of coffee and meet someone new.
When we get together every Sunday morning we come together for one primary purpose - to worship God: Worship is a very basic activity of the human soul. It is when we declare something to be worth so much to us that we choose to devote to it our time, effort, resources and reprioritize everything else in our lives to be able to focus solely on it.
Here are a couple of things to expect during our Sunday morning service:
- Singing songs to God to praise him for who he is and what he has done
- Study the scriptures of the Old and New Testament, which is God's Word
- Celebrate Communion - Jesus taught us to symbolically participate in a meal to celebrate his death and resurrection
- Give of our resources back to God as worship
- Spend time hanging out with one another.
In addition to our Sunday Gathering we also meet during the week in our city groups.
Every week we meet in various homes throughout Central Austin to discuss the sermon, ask questions, hang out, encourage one another and be encouraged, open the Bible and discuss what it has to say about our lives, pray for one another, and have a good time with eachother.
When we get together we usually start with a hang out time and some sort of snack or dessert. After that we read the Biblical text for the week followed by group discussion. After the study we pray for each other and then hang out some more. Occasionally these groups engage in service projects, such as serving in shelters or helping with park cleanups.
